Homeschooling begins

Friday was a Battle of Britain day for the family. The boys are interested in WW2 and Biggin Hill was an important air base for Spitfires and Hurricanes so we toured the local sights. The airfield has a full size Spitfire and Hurricane on either side of the gates and a memorial chapel with a small museum and a list of all the squadrons that served here. When the caretaker welcomed us through the door and heard America accents, he showed us the record of two American squadrons that were based here.
Then we drove down to the White Heart in Brasted where the pilots would often go to relax off duty. Because of the bombing, it was dangerous to show any lights at night and there was a blackout enforced. At the pub they had a large black board by the door to stop the light getting out. The pilots would sign the board for fun. Behind me is a framed reproduction of the blackout board with all the Pilot's signatures.

Jet lagged Grayson

Biggin Hill

It's three days before Christmas and the boys and I are back in Biggin Hill, in the UK, where I grew up.
Our journey was good except for being questioned for longer than usual at immigration about the length of our stay.
Janna is still in Tennessee finishing the packing up of much of our belongings in order for the new renters to move in.
Thanks to all who helped Janna with the momentous task!
She has also been finishing delivery and collections for the latest issue of the DeKalb Co Guide, which has helped to make this trip possible.
We have the house rented for five months until May, so this will be the longest trip we have made to date.
We have settled into my parents new house, it's smaller than the old one I grew up in, but there is a large loft, accessed through a trap door and ladder. This is the boy's den and they are enjoying it. It's insulated but they can hear the wind whistling in the chimney at night.
This morning I was able to catch up with old friends and family at church and tonight we go back to sing some carols.
Looking forward to seeing Janna soon.
